In a lab test, a rat is caged with two liquid supplies, one being the water and the other being the heroin-contained water. As expected, the rat is obsessed with the heroin-contained water and keeps coming back for more and more until it kills itself.
In 1970s, a psychology professor Kraus Alexander noticed something odd about this experience. He realized the rat was alone in the cage. So, he built a rat park which is heaven for rats. In the park, there are drugged water and normal water. However, those rats hardly consume the drugged water. Alexander's theory was helpfully experimented by the Vietnam war. In the war, 20% of American soldiers consumed a lot of heroin. However, 95% just stopped after they got home.
In Johann's TED talk, he shared that Portugal in 2001 had decriminalized all the drugs and began spending money to get drug addicts reconnect back to society through releasing them from prisons, finding them a job by paying half of their wages and therefore finding them a purpose of life. From 15 years of observation, the drug addiction cases had been reduced by 50%. What an achievement! his fact was also shared in Medical Daily on 21st-April-2016.
Interesting fact about addiction. Human is born with the need of connection. By enhancing the connection with people, addiction towards inhuman things will be removed. Will this discovery be used worldwide to help reduce the addictions towards inhuman things and helps with social recovery?
